Penile Fracture

Penile fracture is a rare, but serious, injury that occurs when the tunica albuginea, the fibrous tissue that surrounds the penis, ruptures. It is usually caused by blunt trauma to an erect penis, such as during sexual intercourse or aggressive masturbation. Symptoms of a penile fracture include a popping or snapping sound, immediate loss of erection, intense pain, swelling, and discoloration of the penis. Prompt medical attention is necessary to prevent long-term complications, such as erectile dysfunction. Most penile fractures are repaired surgically.
