Varicocele

A varicocele is a swelling of the veins in the scrotum, similar to a varicose vein in the leg. This can cause discomfort and a heavy or dragging sensation in the scrotum, as well as low sperm count and decreased sperm motility. Varicoceles are common and occur in about 15% of all men and up to 40% of infertile men. Treatment options for varicoceles include observation, embolization, and surgery. In some cases, surgical repair of the veins can improve sperm count and motility, and increase the chances of pregnancy.
