Urethral Stricture

A urethral stricture is a narrowing of the urethra, the tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body. This can occur as a result of injury, infection, or previous medical procedures, such as surgery for an enlarged prostate. Symptoms of a urethral stricture may include difficulty starting or stopping the urine stream, a weak or interrupted stream, pain or discomfort during urination, and frequent urinary tract infections. Treatment of a urethral stricture may involve dilatation (widening) of the stricture using instruments or a balloon, or surgery to remove the strictured segment.
